Local government of Papua Barat province invite investors to develop tourism industry in the region. Papua Barat is one of the two eastern most provinces in Indonesia.
Tourism agency of the local government is now preparing promotional materials for the purpose. They will include videos, guide books and website about National Marine Park of Cendrawasih Bay, and Raja Ampat islands, shipwreck diving in Dore bay of Manokwari regency, bird watching and wild life observation in Arfak mountains.
The national marine park of Cendrawasih Bay is the largest national park in Indonesia covering a total area of 1.45 million hectares. The park consists of pristine coral reef ecosystems, and a vast area of terrestrial tropical forest. The forest is rich of wild animals such as paradise birds, deer, and various medicinal plants and orchids.
Officials from the provincial tourism agency will travel to foreign countries to promote these tourism potentials to investors. Expensive hotels such as Swissbell, Mansinam Beach, and Aston are now operating in Manokwari, the capital city of Papua Barat Province. There is also a small hostel which is the favorite inn for budget travelers is Losmen Kagum. Set in a quiet place at the foot of the Table Mountain-a recommended forest for bird watching , orchid observation and cave exploration, Losmen Kagum has become an affordable place for foreign tourists who wants to stay in Manokwari for longer time. Diving operators are invited to open their business in this region to work side by side with these hotels.
Local government are also preparing the infrastructure to better serve the tourists who want to dive in Dore and Cendrawasih bays; or hike along the Arfak mountains.
The tourism agency of the Papua Barat province believes that diving in wrecks of Dore bay of Manokwari regency, the national park of Cendrawasih bay and the Raja Ampat islands will become important tourist destinations for Indonesia in the near future.
