Trailer - A Nightmare on Elm Street

I. Cannot. Wait. Perhaps the greatest slasher villain of all time finally gets his turn on the re-make train, and what's more, he's being played by one of the biggest discoveries of 2009 - Jackie Earle Haley (who of course was made famous for his portrayal of the vigilante Rorschach in Watchmen.)

Now don't get me wrong; I hate remakes just as much as everyone else. But slasher films, in my mind, are the exception. I grew up watching all the old slasher films of the 1980's on VHS - Friday 13th, Child's Play, Halloween and the original Nightmare films, and I love them all. I love the bad acting. I love the stupid twists. I love the unnecesary and often downright terrible sequels, and I will defend them to my bitter end - see my recent review of Sorority Row for a perfect example of this.

This trailer was pretty awesome; the street name is teased, he sweater comes out and the glove...the glove! The only let down was the reveal of Freddy's face, post scaring, which doesn't look nearly as gruesome as it does in the earlier films. Still, I'm really excited to see a new take on the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.

A Nightmare on Elm Street will be in theatres from April 30th 2010
