In recent days the number of tourists or travelers who come to Manokwari town of West Papua is rising. Many will need a cheap hotel or homestay where they can stay for several days or weeks. If you are one of them then you have read a right article. The cheap hotel or homestay or the backpackers inn that I recommend is Losmen KAGUM. It is located on Brawijaya Street behind Xavier bookstore in Kota region. KAGUM stands for Kaki Gunung Meja (The Foot of The Table Mountain). We name it KAGUM because it is located at the foot of the Table Mountain.

Another interesting site near the hostel, inside the Table Mountain is Japanese War Memorial Monument. During the World War II, Manokwari and the whole Papua island were the battleground between the Imperial Japanese Army and The US forces. The Japanese forces constructed caves or tunnels as bomb shelter.
Some local artists live near the Losmen Kagum. We can guide you to visit them. They make bags from tree barks. Artists from Manokwari are expert in oil paintings, wood carvings and some women weave cloths or bags. If you see some of their artworks are beautiful, don't forget to buy them. Small amount of money which you spent for buying souvenirs from the local artists is good to support them to keep on running their professions.
