the broken crystal character design.

since i'm all about end-of-term projects nowadays, i think i'd share some of the illustrations i made for my friend's game script project. his game is titled "double destiny: the broken crystal", which stories revolve around main character lucas laindre.

here are the character designs featuring quick drawings from me:

lucas laindre

lois laindre

sean laindre

1. main character lucas laindre, 21, a swordsman in search of his true self.

2. his twin sibling lois laindre, 21, represents the darker side of lucas. deeply introverted.

3. father sean laindre, 51, used to be a blacksmith before.

my personal key to create well-dressed characters from medieval era is to dress them in lots of layers, and killer coats. whatever the story is, my initial imagination has always been derived from a gothic-esque castle atop of a cold-weathered mountain so yes... there they are. alterations come last. the most important thing about illustration is to deal with the initial images first, then go to the details. (here i snatched a previous tip from famed fantasy artist john howe)

the main foe, the demon lord:

i took cues from dragonball's piccolo for the face. classic demonic outlook, huh? haha. i find muscular figure of a man is very interesting to be drawn, too, so, the figure of the demon himself was quite simple. the iron mask was inspired by a cruel character from flame of recca/ rekka no honnou.
