The Apple iPhone would have to be better in functionality than a Blackberry to be considered useful, unless they can work out a better input device method or utilize Microsoft's Vista speech recognition program.

Enjoy your brand new 129$ Mac OS X latest revision (the most advanced, the most unique, the most... bla bla bla bla...) carrying more than XXX features (aka... just making the Mac OS X experience more iOS-alike so you get used to AppStore since soon you'll have to go through this method of delivery as there won't be any other one, because Mr. Jobs wants more money...)

SO in the Paris expo is where we'll most likely see updated MBP?They don't need a special event for what will most likely just be an updated processor.I am one who thinks the Merom MBP will be a new design including user installable HD like on the MB. :) So I am still thinking Paris Apple Expo. Apple loves the French. ;)

Meanwhile, new iPods are not expected due at WWDC - but instead are felt to be released in late September-October.
Apple will, of course, be featuring Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) at WWDC this year as previously reported. There has been little leaked information about the upcoming version of Mac OS X.

Socketed CPUs are higher (not a good idea in a laptop). Soldered also gives better connections, which may be important since a laptop is likely to be used in more diverse environments. Like outside, in hot sunshine, or while sitting at a freezing cold trainstation...

I have used Sophos Endpoint Security Small Business Edition in various forms in small businesses since Fall 2005. There have been a few false positives early on, and a higher rate of requests to send samples of suspicious code to Sophos Labs, compared with Symantec's corporate software offerings.
The difference between the free home edition and the corporate Mac client seem to be the stripping away of remote management interface and the ability to receive local AV updates. The executables are almost exactly the same size.
For those who insist that Mac OS X needs not AV protection, I politely disagree. May I call you the Mary Mallon camp? Who was Mary Mallon? She was an Irish immigrant to the US at the turn of the last century. She was a cook. Today we know her as "Typhoid Mary". Approximately 30 people died as a direct result of the Typhus virus she carried, but was apparently immune to.
Martin Luther King said that "None of us are free unless all of us are free." Taken to a new context, computer security, "None of us are secure unless all of us are secure." Yes, Macs may be largely immune in today's threat environment." But threats change. But we all communicate with the Windows world. Please consider taking one for the team and getting some sort of AV. This is one excellent option. It runs on Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server just fine.
So which are you? Mary Mallon or Typhoid Mary? I am sure that it seemed very unfair to Mary Mallon that she should be quarantined when she showed no symptoms. Which is the greater good?
Incidentally, Sophos for the Mac is also an excellent tool for fighting viruses on Windows PCs and Servers. Using Snow Leopard's undocumented (and not ready for prime time) NTFS read/write mount capability (e.g. NTFSMounter) one can scan for viruses on an NTFS volume and remove them. (One cannot remove rootkits completely or scan the Windows registry. This is only a first step.) This can be a valuable first step in removing viruses and other malware from an infected PC or Server. (The next step is to scan from a virtual PC and dispose of that PC and replace with a fresh backup to guarantee no infection during the scan. Finally one uses tools on the running PC itself.)

None the less... I'm surprised at how much doubt there is about Core 2 Duos. Apple and Intel are more or less best buddies. You honestly expect Apple to not update their lineup? You don't think people will go... Hmm... Core Duo Macbook Pro... Or... Core 2 Duo Dell. Even a moron will say "2's better than 1!" Apple is KNOWN for having top of the line systems in their respective class, and now that that class is Intel processors, I have 0 doubt that Apple will introduce Core 2 Duos in it's Macbook Pros as soon as it can. The reason I say Macbook Pros is because I'm sure that Macbooks and Mac Minis will say with the Core Duos. Why? Apple is not going to endorse a major company's ad program that encourages the general consumer to JB their phone. It's risky for many people and it voids the Apple warrantee. Period.
Apple asking Toyota to pull it was the only thing they could do and Toyota was smart enough to see the error in their way.

Every PC Notebook? Eesh most of the notebooks my friends aren't purchasing (that aren't Macbooks - which is by far in the majority) have either AMD chips, P4 chips, or Pentium Mobile chips...
Apple has by far adopted Intel's new chips the fastest out of any other computer manufacturer I know - and hopefully they'll continue to do the same as Core 2 Duo chips are unveiled.
But did those notebooks cost 1200 bucks

Am I the only one who sees the threat of moving to Android as a petty attempt to get Steve to reply? The writer of this email obviously didn't do any research, and he obviously doesn't understand that Steve would see right through a threat like that. This whole thing is a non-issue. I don't care if someone knows where my iPhone has been. I'm worried about far more important things such as protecting my financial information, which I keep in an encrypted disk image in case my laptop gets stolen.

Many people have already said in this thread that you can already easily move an app from one machine to another. You just need to log in with your iTunes/App Store account.
however, nobody has said in this thread how to log in with your iTunes/App Store account on a machine that doesn't have an OS, and I have a feeling I'll need to do that at least once.

Dreaming really (note 1920 res. hack for PB thread here has over 100k views, Apple get a clue!), but hopefully the delay has more to do with better upgrades, vid chip (Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX, 512 MB please), a true HD screen (WQUXGA (http://www.videotechnology.com/0904/formats.html) would be even nicer, 4k res, yeah baby, just the ticket for Leopard and the 17in model), etc. ; than limited supply of Merom's...why put them in the iMac 1st when the profit margin is higher on the MBP's- which are in more need of an early upgrade than the iMac?
Dell already has these features in one of it's expensive laptops (though almost twice as thick, which makes it much easier to implement):

If apple could get one of the phone carriers to go with the free song plan, maybe one of the smaller ones like Alltel, they could single handedly turn Alltel into a major player. Alltel and Apple would both win.
one problem, that will never happen. Alltel does not own their network or even remotly have any form of cash to set it up. they just rent their network. Second, you can offer as much as of a cool device as you want, but its not going to cause millions of people to just dump their plans, break their contracts and switch. Mac cool-aid, down, now!
As far as Verizon goes, they used to be ahead of the game with having LG exclusive, used to be a big thing but no more and they are late on some phones but always have LG. Now, ive been with verizon with 5 years and had it from when I was in Michigan to now in Cali and their service has always been superb. Although, due to a lack of new cool phones and the stupid menue on all the phones thatlooks the same, ive been tempted to switch to Cingular, cause I love the Sony Erricson phones.

As a student I would LOVE to have a Mac tablet with a screen maybe a little bigger than an A4 sized piece of paper. It would be so helpful to be able to scribble notes down and I sure that Apple could come up with some fantastic and creative software for note taking and the like. It's exciting to think this could actually finally by happening sometime next year. Look for my MBP on ebay if this actually happens:):D

Nor, methinks this iPhone shall ever happen. What would Apple gain in becoming a cell phone provider? Its a nasty market with no concensus between camps.
I stated this exactly in a previous thread but I could change my stance if I could be convinced of one or more of the following were possible.
1. Could Apple improve their iChat to compete with the likes of skype, etc?
2. Could Apple provide such a service?
3. Could Apple create an iPod tele without removing what is already available in an iPod?
4. Could there be a iTel AV to connect to iChat AV.
Even if the photographer's visit was legit from the sound of it, it is an entirely new product so I'd have to assume that it was just another phone. Whomever they jump into bed with (service provider) would have to be big, really big. Another thing detracting from the story is that the telephone companies are notoriously slow getting product into their stores whereas when Apple releases something it is in store (Apple store that is) rather quickly. AND I don't see Apple selling another company's cell phone service in-store.

Apple could do themselves a lot of favours if they came out with an offical statement, explaining what iOS does in regards of user tracking ( i.e, location database ). Some 1 line email response fired off by SJ doesn't do much good.
Once again, Apple fall down in terms of customer relations / communications. If Apple handled this correctly then all the fuss could go away in a couple days.

Hershey or Pringles should definitely address such accusations of wrongdoing, because there are few internet forums filled with breathless commentary about those companies. However, there are probably more accusations against Apple than any other company in the world. Most of the controversies die after a week or two, so it makes sense to wait for a while. Otherwise Apple would constantly have to refute some claim or another. Then, if they filled to respond to any specific query the haters would accuse them of hiding something.
