By 2030, it is estimated that the number of people with diabetes will reach 370 million. Most of them are type 2 diabetes. This is closely related to aging, obesity, and inactivity. We have to change our lifestyle to prevent or reduce the risk of having diabetes in our bodies. By being active everyday, we will be able to maintain our blood sugar in normal range.
One of the easiest way is walking. Whether we are at home or at work, we can walk. Instead of using lift or elevator, we can use stairs. If all of the people in our office do the same, we can keep our body healthy and at the same time reduce the burning of fossil fuel that generates electricity for our office and homes.
I like walking. Every time I finish my work, I spend some five to ten minutes walking around my neighborhood. By doing that I will feel more relax.
Suppose that you work on a high rise building on floor 20th. You don't have to walk 20 flights of stairs to reach your workplace. In the elevator, touch button number 18. Then you will only walk two flights of stairs to get to your office.
Maintaining our blood sugar in normal level can be a challenging task to do, to prevent diabetes, if we live in coach potato society. Now we do not need to walk to our TV set if we want to turn down its volume. We just use a remote controller. Or we don't have to walk to the kitchen to get a glass of ice water. A small refrigerator or a cool box with 10 cans of coca cola or sprite is available next to our couch.
Walking is a good habit. It can improve our body metabolism and reduce the risk of developing diabetes. Walking is also good for our environment. So, why don't you take a walk?
