This Friday it's back the salt mine for me and thousands of other students around the country. On top of the additional pressures of VCE, this means that I will have far less time to go to the movies. So before I return to the cruel mistress that is my education, I thought I'd reflect on (complain about) some of my experiences at the movies these holidays.
1. I am tired of the trailer for Revolutionary Road. I'm seeing it on Thursday but based on the trailer I do not have high hopes...it looks like a two hour argument. I actually grew up in the suburbs, and it's really not that bad. The other thing that bugs me is that I have seen this trailer in theatres at least six times, and every time some genius in the audience makes the comment "it's like titantic 2", or words to that effect. Jesus christ, Titanic made over a billion dollars and won best picture...I don't think we need to be told who starred in it. Stop stating the obvious people. You're not funny
2. That add for Yalumba wine where the guy on the laptop tells us that this is the last add before the movie starts. I can appreciate self referential humour, but not when it comes from a preppy douchebag who thinks his funny or worse, clever. And why the hell is there a laptop in the winery anyway?
3. Government sponsored anti-drinking adds. Or, more specifically, government sponsored anti-drinking adds followed immediately by at least three adds for liquor. I suppose it's good that the government is trying to prevent binge drinking amongst young people, but there no point in telling us that 50% of drunk people do something they regret when you then tell us that the best way to get a super-hot Caribbean chick is to drink bacardi. I do however like that Stolichnaya Russian Vodka commercial (although I can't help but think that Lenin wouldn't be happy that his face is being used to sell booze)
4. Ice in my coke. Obviously, a little bit of ice is necessary in order to keep your beverage cool and refreshing, but most of the time the morons at the candy bar fill half the cup, so that you end up paying $5.50 for water.
If I can think of any more things I hated this summer, I'll be sure to add to the list. One thing I didn't hate was that Workplace Safety add where the girl cuts her finger off in the breadslicer. Am I the only one who thinks that's hilarious?
Anyone?
