I don't think I was the only one who got worried when it was announced that McG would be directing the new Terminator movie. Sure, the man knows actions (see Charlies Angels and Charlies Angels: Full Throttle), but the Terminator franchise (or at least the first two films) have always combined awesome action with good smart storytelling, which is definately not McG's strongsuit (see Charlies Angels and Charlies Angels: Full Throttle.)
That being said, every new trailer or piece of advertising for this movie gets me more and more excitied. Christian Bale (despite his on set antics) is a fantastic actor, and I am fully confident that he can pull off the role of John Conner. The action is this trailer is phenominal, and the introduction of the Marcus Wright characters looks as though it could raise some interesting questions about the Terminator mythology. No sign of the digitally inserted Arnie cameo we were promised, but I kind of thought that was a stupid idea anyway.
I do have a few problems with the trailer. Number one is the music by Nine Inch Nails, which doesn't suit the footage at all. Number two is the Darth Vader moment that comes when Marcus discovers his robo-inards and lets out a "Nooooooooooooo"...yeah. Never seen that before. Number three is the caption "Forget The Past", which seems to be a bit of put down to the previous films. Terminator 2: Judgment Day is one of my all time favourite movies, and while clearly McG is taking the series in a different direction, he should still give credit where credit's due. Even so, this trailer is absolutely kickass, and the film is one of my most anticipated on 2009.
Terminator Salvation will be replicating human tissue in Australia from June 4th
