Weekly Film News: Brüno, Ghostbusters 3, Fast and Furious 5, Woody Harrelson is an idiot

In order to lend Plus Trailers some much needed credibility, every Friday I am going to be writing a little about the week’s film news. I will only be reporting on news that interests me – fans of Twilight will have to look elsewhere for information on the sequel. In fact, if you’re looking for balanced and/or decent news coverage you’d probably be better of visiting sites like firstshowing.net or slashfilm.com, where far more news is reported in a much more professional manner. But if you can stand my poor grammar and nerdish rants about whatever it is that Hollywood is screwing up this week then by all means read on. But don’t say that I didn’t warn you.

Brüno, Sacha Baron Cohen’s follow up to the wildly successful Borat, received an R Rating by the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) for pervasive strong and crude sexual content, graphic nudity and language. Sounds promising? This rating will most likely translate into an MA15+ here in Australia. In related news, several promotional photos for the film have just been released and…they’re about what you’d expect from a film about a gay Austrian fashion reporter. Click here to view the photos.

Footage from Inglourious Basterds, the new WWII film starring Brad Pitt, directed by Quentin Tarantino has been released and includes a first look at Mike Myers in his role as a British general. Click here to see the footage.

Following the wild box office success of Fast and Furious, an untitled fifth film in the series has been confirmed. It will be set in Brazil, and will continue to star both Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Potential titles? I'm thinking...Five and Furious? Or maybe Fast and Five-ious!?

Harold Ramis and Dan Akroyd have been talking up the new Ghostbusters Movie, which they say will focus on a group of young trainee ghostbusters. Apparently most of the original cast is set to return. Horray?

The Green Lantern movie is set to begin shooting in Sydney in July on a budget of $US150 million (to give you some perspective, Iron Man was made for $US140 million and The Dark Knight for $US180 million). Melbournians, don't be jealous. We'll always have Ghost Rider.

The last trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has just been released online. I have already posted two others, and really don't feel as though I have anything else to say other than it looks good. Interested parties should have no trouble finding it on youtube.

After a very successful seventh season set in Washington DC, 24 will again chance locations for season eight. This time, Jack Bauer will be taking on the Big Apple: New York City. Kiefer Sutherland (Jack Bauer), Cherry Jones (Alison Taylor), Mary Lynn Rajskub (Chloe O'Brien) and Annie Wersching (Renee Walker) are all confirmed to return...no word on Carlos Bernard (Tony Almeida) who has a big question mark hanging over his head after the most recent episode. Additionally, Anil Kapoor, who played the gameshow host on Slumdog Millionaire is also set to join the cast next season as a Middle Eastern peacekeeper.

Finally, Woody Harrelson assaulted a paparazzo this week, who he apparently mistook...for a zombie. No, I'm not kidding. Harrelson recently finished filming a new horror comedy called Zombieland, and I guess he was still a little on edge. Makes sense to me!
