Here's the thing about Transformers. No one gives a crap about anything except the action. The dialogue, the characters, the plot...all irrelevant to 99.9% of the audience. All we want is explosions, giant robots and Megan Fox. I went to the movies yesterday (to see Wolverine - it was average), and was lucky enough to see the previous trailer for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (the one in which no more than half a dozen words are spoken) on the big screen, and it was phenomenal.
This trailer on the other hand - while it still has it's fair share of explosions, giant robots and Megan Fox - also reveals what I like to call the 'sucky' aspects of this film, namely; the jokes, the story and the stupid, stupid humans (excluding Megan Fox, of course.) While I don't hate Shia LeBeouf nearly as much as most people, I don't care about what happens to his character in the slightest. Nor do I want to hear Optimus Prime talking about fate and destiny - I just want to see him kill Decepticons with duel heat-swords.
So my question is this: why release this new trailer at all? The previous one was amazing, and delivered exactly what people wanted to see; all this one does is make us wonder if we should wait for DVD so we can fast forward through the bits that don't have robots killing each other. For the record, there is no way I am not seeing this theatrically, as the big screen and sound system is what makes it awesome. But I might take my iPod in with me to kill time during the lapses in explosions, giant robots and Megan Fox.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be open in Australia on June 25th.
P.S. Despite my criticisms, there is a lot of cool stuff in this trailer and I think the movie will be awesome.
