In order to lend Plus Trailers some much needed credibility, every Friday I am going to be writing a little about the week’s film news. I will only be reporting on things that interest me – fans of Twilight will have to go elsewhere. In fact, if you want comprehensive or unbiased news coverage you’re probably looking in the wrong place. But if you can stand my poor grammar and nerdish rants about whatever it is that Hollywood is screwing up this week then by all means read on. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Above is the cover of Entertainment Tonight featuring the stars of the highly anticipated Iron Man 2. Aside from Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, we also get another glimpse at the villains of the film: Ivan Vanko/Whiplash played by Mickey Rourke, and Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow played by Scarlett Johansen. Below is another picture of Johansen in the role...this made my day. Iron Man 2 will be in cinemas from May 7th 2010
In other Marvel Superhero related news, Natalie Portman has been cast in the upcoming film adaptation of Thor. Portman will play Jane Foster, the love interest for the titular character, who will be played by relative unknown Chris Hemsworth (who is probably best known for playing Kirk's dad in the opening scene of the new Star Trek). I know it's hard to get excited for this movie, but just remember that it's being directed by Kenneth Branagh (Henry V), so it does have the potention to be something of an epic.
Let The Right One In, the awesome Swedish vampire movie from last year (click here for my review) is being remade for American audiences, and we have our first bits of news. Firstly, it is being directed by Matt Reeves, who previously directed Cloverfield. Secondly, it has been retitled Let Me In (because aparently English speakers can't handle more than three words). Neither of these pieces of information fill me with confidence, but I still hold out some hope.
Over the last few weeks, I've been posting about Tim Burton's upcoming adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. Well, it turns out that this isn't an adaptation at all, but a reimagining/sequel/I don't really know what the hell is going on. The story will follow a 17 year old Alice (Mia Wasikowska) returning to Wonderland ten years after her first visit, but with no memories of it. But the creatures of Wonderland remember her, and need Alice to lead them in a revolt against the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter). I have to say that this revelation makes me much more excited about the movie, despite my aversion to Burton's style.
The Watchmen Directors Cut will be released on DVD in America on July 21st, with over 25 minutes of extra footage, including the cut scene of Hollis Mason's death (which can be viewed here.) Devin Faraci at CHUD.com took a lot at the new footage, and came to the conclusion that this is the version that fans have been waiting for. Click here for his write-up.
Above is the first poster for Zombieland, the new horror comedy starring Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg. Set a post-Zombie-apocalyiptic world, the film follows a small band of survivors who take refuge in an amusement park. I really like this poster, and the trailer (which can be viewed here) was also pretty funny. Zombieland will be in theatres in the US from October 9th, and in Australia from December 10th.
Some truly amazing (though possibly false) casting news for Robert Rodriguez's Machete has just hit the web. BloodyDisgusting is reported that on top of Danny Trejo as the lead, the film will also star Michelle Rodriguez, Jonah Hill and...wait for it...Robert De Niro. Holy christ! The project, about a knife wielding Mexican bounty hunter, originally started as a fake trailer attached to the 2007 Rodriguez/Tarantino film Grindhouse, but since then rumours have circulated about it being adapted into a feature. Is this just the latest whispering, or is the movie finally moving forward (with an A-list cast no less)? Let's hope it's real; click here to view the original Machete trailer.
Finally, I just thought I'd post this amazing poster for the third season of Mad Men. I can't wait! (even though we havn't even got season two in Australia yet.)
