With a $37 million dollar opening weekend state-side plus overwhelmingly positive reviews (you can find mine here), there was always going to be talk about a sequel to District 9. Director Neill Blomkamp has said that he "would do anything to go back to the world of District 9 again. Or District 10", and also said that he hopes to reteam with the films star Sharlto Copley. I said in my review that I thought the District 9 universe was open to all kinds of additional media, and I would love to see a sequel, whether it focused on the Wikus character from the first film or someone else. Blomkamp has however stated that he is writing another science fiction film which he wants to do first.
I know a lot of people who saw District 9 over the weekend and really enjoyed it, and I know a lot more people who are interested in checking it out based on the positive word of mouth. If you have seen District 9, what do you think of the idea of a sequel? Would you be interested in seeing it?
