alexander wang spring 2010 RTW.

"we want to create clothes that are simple and classic. our girls want investment pieces."

alexanderwang

don't you just love that notion above? what an understanding designer he is.

i love alex wang. not because of that cute face, seriously *but... who can deny that cuteness?*

he's a total genius. i mean it. look at his collections. simple and timeless. many designers have tried to design "simple" collections but only few manages to survive the crowd. alex wang is, however, one of them.

in this stage, i recalled a notion said in a great eBook by cartoonist/blogger Hugo MacLeod titled 'How to be Creative' that it is not enough for someone just to stand out in the crowd. the thing is to avoid crowd completely, that's exactly when one can be legally called as 'creative'.

ever wonder how alex wang managed to do such thing? what is, exactly, makes him that special compared to fellow great casual wear designers?

in my opinion, here are my version of reasons:

1. casual and classy at the same time

the sporty style he embraced for spring 2010 looks hits high notes by mixing them with leather ensembles. look at what freja beha erichsen and karmen pedaru wore in pictures # 1 and 3. leather loose pants? seriously. that defines the sacred word 'supercalifragilisticexpialidocious'.

2. neutrals with style

according to what i've examined so far, alex wang loves using neutral colors in his collections. black. white. ochres. slight touches of pastels. neutral colors could just come out dull if they are not combined with uniquely-designed clothes.

wang's ability to design such wearable yet uniquely stylish clothes is one thing that matters in this case.

simple, right? the looks are so models-off-duty (MOD, in wang's word), but take a closer look, and you'll finally figure out that the clothes are not that simple. they are unique. look at the details of the dress worn by frankie rayder in picture # 3.

finally, my favorite piece:

i love how body-conscious the design is. plus, the girly factors got watered down by the presence of knee-high socks and tough booties. this is a very creative way to wear an utterly feminine dress.
