17 January 2011 - Sunday afternoon there was some calm in Salt (Girona). But with a difference: more police cars. The municipality, with 43% of immigration, from Friday have lived a wave of vandalism that has seen 12 vehicles burned (five cars and seven motorcycles) and nine charred containers. The mayor has called for calm and called for police reinforcement. The Police have arrested three people. Last March locals and immigrants faced by problems of living in one of the municipalities (31,000 inhabitants) with a higher rate of immigration.
In Salt, it all started on Friday with a concentration of between 40 and 50 people(mostly aged between 9 and 14 years), almost all immigrants, in solidarity with Mohamed Reda Lyamani, who remains hospitalized in critical condition for more than a week. He fell into an open courtyard from a fifth floor to escape the police, who stopped him while driving a stolen motorcycle. The teenager, aged 16, has numerous criminal precedents. "We have very much present the facts of Paris," said the mayor, who has said they will fight to prevent the same thing happening.
On Friday people began burning containers and early Sunday morning several cars were burnt in different streets of the city.
