I have just read an article in msnbc website about the ticket price of the Oasis of the Seas that offers the best cruise deals in the world. It was written by Anita Dunham-Potter with the title "Is Oasis of the Seas worth the price?" She questions whether travelers who want to see the Caribbean islands are willing to pay high fares for sailing with the largest cruise ship whose capacity is 6,296 guests. During the current economic crisis people are tightening their belts to save money which is now hard to earn. Spring is coming and holiday makers are now searching for cheap travel deals which are not far from their home. Traveling over the tropical Caribbean islands is a fascinating experience but will people spend $ 1,645 for double occupancy of an inside state room?
The economic crisis that resulted in political instability in Tunisia, Egypt and several other countries in North Africa may not greatly influence other countries outside Africa but it has clearly shown how the rise of food and every consumer products forces people to tighten their belts even more. In other words, international travelers who are dreaming of going to the Caribbean islands for a one-week tour aboard the Oasis of the Seas cruise ship may not decide to buy cruise tickets at the moment.
Furthermore, with the addition of new cruise ships to the Caribbean sea in the last five years, travelers now have more choice to sail with. The operation of cruise ship the Allure of the Seas into the Royal Caribbean International's cruise fleet will definitely affects her older sister's market share. These two giant cruise ships will have to compete each other to get passengers. But they are not alone in the Carribean sea. There are smaller other ships and cruise yachts that are also offering affordable cruise deals.
Seeing this situation, I hope that the Royal Caribbean International can make some adjustments in pricing so that more people can enjoy spring vacation with their families. Or should they promote their cruise deals in other emerging economies such as China, India, Indonesia, South Korea and South East Asian countries? Well, I haven't seen Chinese or Indonesian language version of the Oasis of the Seas' website. If they want to attract wealthy Asian families to enjoy the luxurious cruise travel, I think that should begin to consider translating their websites into some potential Asian languages. by Charles Roring
