Tuesday, February 8, 2011 - Localized riots resumed in several locations across four wilaya. Young people demanding a decent life, jobs, housing and social justice set up barricades, blocking roads and clash with security forces.
Naciria (Bouira)
Violent riots erupted on Tuesday, February 8 between security forces and the unemployed in the town of Naciria, 45 km east of Boumerdes. The clashes started around 14h after the intervention of security forces who tried unsuccessfully to open the N12, which was closed by young unemployed.
These positions are demanding employment under the new system of contract training and integration (CFI). The traffic was blocked for several hours. Dozens of passengers were forced to detour via routes Boumraou and Tizi n'Ali n'Slimane to reach their destination.
The clashes took place initially on the N12, before spreading to other parts of the city.
El Harrouch (Skikda)
Violent clashes between young protesters and police took place on Monday 7 February Toumiate, a village of El Harrouch, 30 km south of Skikda.
The first assessment of these clashes already reported is 13 policemen and three people wounded. Several demonstrators were arrested.
These events occurred after blocking the RN3 linking Skikda and Constantine by demonstrators expressing grievances in relation to their daily lives.
Following the failure of talks, the police charged the demonstrators by using tear gas to disperse and arrested several of them.
The road was reopened to traffic around 14h 30 and places were still living an uneasy calm.
Sidi Amar (Annaba)
Hundreds of unemployed in the town of Sidi Amar, in the wilaya of Annaba, have taken possession of the highway Tuesday, February 8 in the early afternoon to seek employment.
At 13:00, the two main access routes to Chaïb near the headquarters of the group Sider and that of the new city ALDA in the same town, were closed to traffic. Protesters blocked roads with assorted objects and burned tires. It was virtually impossible to access by car to this city of 70,000 people strong.
Bordj Menaïel (Boumerdes
Nearly 200 unemployed youth blocked yesterday from 12 pm to 15 pm, the national road linking Algiers to Tizi Ouzou in the amount of Bordj Menaïel to demand permanent jobs. The demonstrators, who used stones and lit tires, want sustainable jobs and reject the formula of pre-employment, they feel no future. Officials at the Hall of Bordj Menaïel managed to convince the unemployed to end their movement, with promises to support their claims.
Tazmalt (Bejaia)
In Bejaia, workers from the dairy "Valley" of Tazmalt closed to traffic the road linking Algiers Bejaia at the locality of Allaghen in protest against the downsizing of their companies. Indeed, this dairy has decided to dispense with forty employees because of reduced production due to the reduction of its quota for milk powder.
