The fact that apple has a huge location database accessible by anybody with an app scares me. That's too much centralized data for somebody to do bad things with, even if it's not Apple. THAT is why this is a bad thing.
:confused::confused: Apple has NOTHING ! and NOTHING is accessible by everybody (except the owner of the device)
The data is stored on YOUR phone and YOUR laptop ... Apple does not have a centralized database with that data - it is all on your devices.
THAT is why it is not a bad thing
The governments have those big databases, but that's a different story.

Obviously iPod related-with a musical guest on stage or via ichat (last year Madonna and Jamie Foxx). Nike kit for 5G iPod, and tubes for 5g.

55 miles per US gallon ;). Thats 70 miles per imperial gallon as US gallons are smaller.
Damn stupid unit systems! What is this, the dark ages?!
70 mpg (UK ones) is high, 50-60 is quite normal I'd say.
Why can't we finally all switch to metric?!

With all these rumors around, I feel like this event is Tomorrow, and not next week, but still we don't even have a confirmed date yet.
Now don't get me wrong, I'd love to see everything happen in one event that AppleInsider recently predicted.
But I just there are too many rumors floating around at this point.
Anyone agree w/ me on this one?

I would just like to say that i had said this exact same thing a couple weeks ago-apple would probably initally only sign on with one carrier and everyone else would be left out in the cold-so to al those who said it wouldn't happen it appears that it will be happening
well, also it makes perfect sense since cingular is the only provider that i know of that has itunes capable phones. really no suprise here. this is why when my dog ate my ericson t637 i just got a $50 referb and held off on buying a new phone. telepod is going to be great!

Before this set of law suits between creative and Apple, Creative had a leg in the cript. Now the 100 million will probably save the company.
It is likely that someone screwed up and delayed in applying for a patent, as such, Creative got there first. Maybe that is why Steve sounded pissed.

knowing how apple is.....probably itunes purchases only.
Highly doubt it. I really hope not to be honest. They need to be competitive with Amazon if they do iTunes purchases only I believe they will lose a ton of Market share to Amazon. I think (hope) that Apple is smarter than that.

I don't know how much support I'm going to get for this but are we seriously going to sit around and blame only the drunk drivers for this? I mean, really. Our entire society aggrandizes the idea of having a beer and bars/restaurants go out of their way to make drinks that have gratuitous amounts of alcohol but don't taste like it and we're going to sit around and solely blame the person.
WTH is the accountability to bars? They say a bar can't serve you if you're drunk - mmhmm. I will guarantee you that the bar down the street only cares if you're too drunk to stand, they couldn't care less if you're above .08%. If people cared more about preventing DD and less about just trying to catch people who gave in to the temptation of alcohol we'd have a "taxi-tax." Each drink sold has a 5 cent tax - every bar in the area has to require people to blow before they leave and if they are above .08 they have 2 options - take a cab home (paid for by the taxi-tax) or sit around, drink water and wait until it's low enough for you to drive. I've been to a fair number of bars and I've had enough where I had to have a friend drive and I will tell you that not once in my entire adult life would I have given a crap if they charged me 5 cents more per drink. Even if it had to be 10 cents more per drink I'd be fine with that as well.
As I said, if this was about safety and not just trying to get people, put them in jail and take their money they'd do that but instead they do this, help the state budget but leave millions of lives at risk every single day...

Just seen on Mashable that Apple is now releasing a new iPod touch aimed at children. Now the Catholic church is suing Apple because they are naming this new device iTouch Kids.

App market?
Program Store?
Program Market?
App Hub?
App Universe?
App Base?
Tool Shed?
Imagination?
Hello?
What is the App Store? It is a store where you buy apps, an app store.
It's not a "shed where you buy apps", for example.

Agree to that, but why is it being collected without permission?
You gave it permission. Location Services is enabled on your phone, and apps that require the data ask your permission, and almost any system level service keep logs.

I just bought a Macbook, what does this news mean to me? How much more powerful is Conroe compared to my own Core Duo? Can anyone direct me to some benchmarks of Conroe that are being put against the Core Duo?

Apple really needs to get on the SATA-3 bandwagon. There are already plenty of SSD choices that can utilize the higher throughput, and more drives are on the way.
Not to mention the fact that most motherboards out there today all have SATA-3 and have for a while now.

This logic is flawed because just as they did with the MacPro, they will add the new laptops to the iPod promotion if they are released.
Or more likely they would exempt them to clear out old stock, as they have in previous years. The mac pro was released well before the end of the promotion, and was replacing a machine that was way overdue and likely barely selling. The macbook and mbp are still selling well and the promo is almost over, I'd say chances of adding it to the promo are slim to none.
Completely agree that the rebate tells us nothing about release dates.
This was one of the things I was afraid would happen with the Intel switch--a new processor every eight minutes. At least with the PPCs, there were predictable, manageable gaps between bumps.
What hasn't been predictable about this? People have known about this for months, no real surprises here. I'm ecstatic that upgrades are happening this quickly, it's something all mac users should be excited about.

In iOS, you have to flick and flick, especially if you have many apps.
There's always that little thing called "Spotlight". Home button, flick left, start typing.
Hardly an impossibility. ;)

Leopard will even run on PowerPC macs.
Ok so in other words you DON'T need a Core 2 Duo to run Leopard, right?

the ipod wasn't a ground up design either.
now admittedly, it was apple, jobs and ives' that took a good idea and refined it to being the great product introduced in '03, but the ipod was an interesting break from apple's NIH syndrome. so much so that i question the TS report about apple going for a ground up design.
...I think you'll find.
Yes, check Wiki...

You, sir, get it. The technologies create new capabilities that will adapt to the market. The luddites are only capable of seeing innovation as a loss.
yup, things are just changing.
why have 1,000 books on your shelf when you can toss it on a kindle? someone who wants 1,000 books on their shelf instead of on a kindle is just a hoarder ;)

The theory that OS X is completely secure is equally nonsense.
Don't attempt to use logic or scientific evidence around here zer0sum. Fanboys have never heard of it. They're too busy sticking their heads in the sand and saying it could never happen to them. After all, Apple doesn't have security updates because they feel there is a "need" for them (after all, OSX is completely secure and it couldn't happen here!), but just to make people from the Windows world 'feel better' by saying they've done something once in a blue moon. ;) :D

I've had serious plans for starting to develop software for the iPhone, as an experienced software developer. I've considered buying the latest iMac version for improved performance and a bigger screen than on my 13" MacBook. But I've changed my mind. Why develop for a platform with a defect application approval process? I don't want all that frustration. I'll probably develop for the Android instead. The iPhone is still the best platform but Apple sucks. Period.
