Port of Tanjung Perak Surabaya Indonesia

Port of Tanjung Perak has been visited by boats and ships from around the world since the era of Majapahit kingdom hundreds of years ago. It is one of the busiest ports in Indonesia that support the economic activities of the country. Port of Tanjung Perak is located in Surabaya, a trading city in Indonesia. It is also near the biggest naval base of Indonesia, Pangkalan AL Armada Timur. As the second largest city in Indonesia, Surabaya is seen as center of commerce beside Jakarta and other big cities.

Ships carrying cargoes and passengers arrive and leave Tanjung Perak every day. Ships from other islands in Indonesia bring raw materials to Surabaya whereas ships from Surabaya bring manufactured goods to other islands. Ships that need repair will go to Dock of Surabaya whereas ship owners who need to order new ships can go to PT PAL, the largest shipbuilder in Indonesia. All of the ship repairers and shipbuilders, as well as other marine suppliers, make port of Tanjung Perak as their headquarters. In other words, Port of Surabaya is the center of Indonesian shipping and marine industry. If we visit the port, we will see hundreds of ships and boats at its harbors.

It is not surprising to see that the marine pollution in this region is high. The color of sea water is not clear blue anymore. It looks brown-bluish now. The wastes from Surabaya city and from ships all dump in Port of Tanjung Perak's waters. Concrete actions from port administrators, marine industries, ship owners and city administrators are needed to clean the sea water around the port. by Charles Roring

Traveling around Surabaya the city of commerce

by Charles Roring in Manokwari - West Papua - Indonesia

I often visit Surabaya. It is the second largest city in Indonesia. Its population is more than three million people and continues to grow. Travelers like to visit Surabaya after spending three days or one week in Bali, the most important tourist destination in Indonesia. Tourists, before going back home, stop by the city for one or two days shopping. There are many shopping centers in Surabaya.

Every day, when you walk a long the alleys of malls in Surabaya, you will see tourists buy various kinds of goods as gifts to their relatives. After buying gifts or souvenirs, tourists can enjoy various kinds of Indonesian and Chinese or Western cuisines sold by a lot of restaurants.

I visited the port of Tanjung Perak. It is one of the busiest ports in South East Asia. Here every day thousands of ships and boats load and unload cargoes and passengers. It is not surprising if Surabaya is an ideal place to run a business.

One that I cannot stand about the city is the level of air pollution. As a coastal city in tropical region, the temperature in Surabaya is quite high and full of moisture. The problem is that the hot and humidity are worsened by the smokes released by motorized vehicles and factories.

When travelers have finished shopping in Surabaya, they can continue their trip to Malang, Yogyakarta or Jakarta or they can even fly home via Juanda international airport. Traveling and Having Lunch with Friends in Malang and Surabaya

by Charles Roring in Manokwari of West Papua - Indonesia

If I make a trip to Java, I will always have to visit Malang. I spent three years there working as Academic Coordinator of Englishland. It is an English school which I and Dewi founded on 8 August 2002. Many travelers come to Malang every year. The temperature of the city is cool. I like Malang. Tourists who want to go to Mount Bromo must stop in Malang for logistics and some rest.

My trip to Malang was for visiting former and new friends. They were staff of the English school. I and Dewi had lunch with them. These girls were young and smart. They are beautiful too. While eating our lunch, one of the staff took some pictures. Malang is a well-known educational city in Indonesia. I like the city very much. When I was still living in the city, I often went out with Dewi to enjoy dinner or lunch in restaurants. The price of food here is very cheap compared to similar menu people eat in big cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya. Maybe in the near future, I will fly to Malang again and continue my trip to other interesting places in Java.

Traveling and Enjoying the Nightlife of Surabaya

by Charles Roring in Manokwari of West Papua - Indonesia

The last time I traveled to Surabaya, I was able to enjoy the night life of this second biggest city in Indonesia after Jakarta. Surabaya is a city of commerce. Goods and services are traded in this city in local, national and international scales. Besides being a commerce city, Surabaya has all its potentials to be the city of tourism. The nightlife always attracts tourists to enjoy the never tiring cosmopolitan. You can fly directly from major cities in Asia to Surabaya. Contact your travel agency if it knows any direct flights from your city to Surabaya.

Like other big cities in the world, there are many malls in Surabaya. Some that I like to visit are Pakuwon, Galaxi, Tunjungan Plaza and Delta. Whether you enjoy window shopping or eating in various Asian restaurants, Surabaya has it all. If you prefer to have a romantic scene then I will suggest that you visit the Singapore of Surabaya. It is a miniature of Singapore which you can enjoy especially at night.

When I was in a restaurant in the city center, I ate Chinese food. The taste of the food was actually not really delicious but the management of the restaurant really knew how to serve their customers. Dancers and singers were hired to perform on the stage to create a relax atmosphere. For a while, I was able to forget the traffic jam and the pollution exhausted by millions of vehicles in the city.

The sound of loud music cherished the body movements of the dancers. I wonder how much these girls and boys got for one night show? Well, it might be enough to pay their living expenses in this city. Are they erotic dancers? I don't think so. Which place will I prefer to choose for spending my nightlife in the city? I would say the Singapore of Surabaya. It is located in Citra Land around 30 minutes driving from Juanda international airport.I heard that there is another place that is more suitable for clubbers. The city dwellers call it MEX. I used to see the building but I've never been there. I really want to visit it, and see with my own eyes what the MEX is really all about. I want to write about it for my blog. Unfortunately, I am not able to do that now, maybe next time.
