Women emancipation Movie in Cuba

I just watched a film in Cuban Television. It's an old movie with English subtitle to help non-Spanish viewers understand the whole story. Unfortunately, I don't know the title of the film because when I began watching it, it had been running.The film is very good. It depicts about the daily life of Cuban housewives who have to work hard at the factories and serve their families. The actress acts as Teresa whose husband works as a TV repairman. At home Teresa has to wake up early in the morning, preparing milk and giving it to her children.

At the same time she has to prepare breakfast for her family. Teresa, under the influence of revolutionary and communist thought, thinks that men have to also share the house chores. She sees the chores as part of slavery. After work, she participates in dancing rehearsal to compete against other dancing groups for international contest.

I admire this film because in Communist country like Cuba the emancipation of women is openly discussed. Women also need to have time outside the four side walls of their homes, socializing with friends, or participating in labor union. The state owned textile factory where Teresa is working at has increased the production target to around 20 million meters a year and women workers have to work in rotating shifts to reach the target. They also use this issue against their husbands to have more time outside of their homes instead of devoting all their time in the kitchen cooking and washing the dishes. Teresa's husband left her and met with another woman. Later he realized that he loved Teresa very much and was willing to return to his wife. He begged her to receive him again but she rejected him. She preferred to live as an independent woman.

In many countries, married women are still treated unfairly by their husbands. They have to work hard at home and do not have time to socialize with their friends.

This film teaches its viewers about how important it is to share the family chores. Washing the dishes, cleaning the room, sweeping the floor are chores that mainly done by women, Cuban communist party see them as a kind of slavery. They created the film to teach their citizens about the needs to share the family burden. Such film is not only good for Cubans but for all of modern people who respect and protect women's rights.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Working at Home

In my previous article I emphasized the importance of writing a business plan when we want to open a home business. Now I am writing some of my personal experiences about working at home to make money. I am going to discuss about the advantageous and disadvantages of running a home business.

First, the advantages, when you have made up your mind that you want to make money from home, you will have to see the advantageous side. It is clear that working from home will save you a lot of money, especially the cost of transportation. If you are an office worker, you must wake up early in the morning. You will always move in a hurry if you wake up late. If not, you will get to work late. Your employer or colleagues will complain about it. When you work at home running your own business, you will be your own boss. No one will complain if you wake up late. But I suggest that you set up a regular business hours so that your customers will not complain. Be a professional business owner even when you run a business from your backyard. When you open your business from a garage in the morning, wear a proper dress. Don't only wear a short and T-shirt if you plan your company is an engineering consultant or a language course. In addition of being your own boss, you will have more time to look after your family. You can do some housework while working although I don't recommend this thing. Some housewives look after their babies while typing on the computer designing web or sending e-mails to prospective customers. It is important to run your business professionally. If possible separate the private domain from company domain.

Second, the disadvantages, it is clear that there are some inconveniences which you might experience when setting up a home business. Usually, you will have to sacrifice some of your family privacy. This is one thing that many home business owners like to complain. There are times when customers call to yur home while you are sleeping. Although you have closed your door, they could see that the lights at your living room still on and they will ring the doorbell. The worst case is when there are some arguments between you and one of the family members, your clients will be much affected. Another problem is mixed administration. This is something that you have to avoid if you want to build a professional company. Separate the money of the company from the household.

As a solution, try to separate your office with your home. There has to be a clear partition for that. If your office is a garage then your customer cannot go beyond that area. Then, you must state a clear working hours both on the name plank of your company hanging outside of your house or at the door, or even at your business card. If possible, provide a separate telephone and fax lines. When you have closed your office, then you will only receive calls at home.  If you really want to have a professional business, do your business during business hours and take after your family during the family hours. Don't mix them or your family will be jeopardized.

Problems that I face when running an online store are difficulties in assessing the delivery cost or cost of shipping. In my town, the post office doesn't have online website where I can log on to calculate the cost of shipping for the products that I want to send to people in other cities. To solve the problem we contacted a woman who works in the post office and asked her phone number. Anytime we have an online customer ordering our books, we just ask her the shipping cost. She will tell us the cost which we later add to the price of the books and the packaging. Then we inform our customer the total cost of the products that he or she has ordered. Our customer will send a text message informing us that he or she has transferred the money to our bank account. We just use sms banking to verify it. After receiving the money, we send the books via the postal service.

If you are living in a big city, running an online store is very easy. You can use a shopping cart solution that is integrated with many delivery service companies such as DHL, UPS or ELTEHA. The transaction can also be done by using credit cards and payment gateway systems such as paypal.

So, today's financial crisis should not be the end of everything. You can run a home business by running an online store that is very potencial to become a multi-billion dollar enterprise.
