What on earth were Paramount thinking!?
I am not and have never been a Star Trek fan. So I think I can be objective when I say that this trailer is pretty sweet. The space battles look kickass, and the casting of Eric Bana, John Cho and Simon Pegg in what I think are minor roles intrigues me. Zachary 'Sylar' Quinto as Spock seems kind of dumb (he is a terrible actor), but whatever. I have to say that up until the last two seconds of this trailer, I was really looking forward to seeing this film. And then I saw the title, and everything fell apart.
Actually, that's not quite true. I still want to see it, but I don't know if I can face the embarassment of going up to the ticket office, and asking to see Star Trek. Seriously, I cannot imagine a world in which this film dosen't completely bomb. The last Star Trek film, Nemesis (2002) made only $40 million from a $60 million budget, and I have to imagine that there is even less of an audience for the franchise now. The brand is well and truly dead, and I predict that this will be the biggest flop of 2009.
Star Trek opens in Australia on May 7th
