LAMBcast Episode #8 - "A whimsical mess"

The title I've picked for the latest episode of the LAMBcast (the official podcast of the Large Association of Movie Blogs) comes from Jason Soto's description of a 1959 Mexican film called Santa Claus, which tells the story of jolly old St. Nick doing battle with a demon from his stronghold in outer space. Yes as you might be able to tell, this was our Christmas episode and Jason (who as many of you may know runs Invasion of the B Movies) was eager to share some of the very worst movies the festive season has to offer. But while "a whimsical mess" is without doubt be a great way to describe films such as Santas Slay, Silent Night Deadly Night part 2 and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, it is also somewhat appropriate for this episode of the podcast.

With our normal ringleader Dylan Fields aka Fletch of Blog Cabins out enjoying some caroling (or perhaps a little eggnog), Jason took over hosting duties for this episode; unfortunately while he was more than up to the task, his recording equipment was not. At first it's fine, but around the twenty minute mark of the episode you will start to notice that he seems to be interrupting people. Not long after that he begins to laugh at seemingly inappropriate times and begins answering questions that haven't actually been asked. No, he's not psychic. What has happened is an audio glitch that has caused the sound not to synch up, putting Jason several seconds ahead of the rest of us. And as the episode goes on, it only gets worse.

Despite our technical problems the episode is still definitely worth listening to at least up until the end of our discussion of unconventional Christmas movies. It also gives you a chance to meet two LAMBcast newbies; Rachel Thuro of Rachel's Reel Reviews and Travis McCollum of The Movie Encyclopedia, who join Jason and myself for what really was a very fun if not altogether successful podcast. And hey, at least with Travis there I'm not the only teenager on board.

Now, if only we could get another non-American...

You can listen to this and previous episodes of the LAMBcast in the widget in the sidebar, or at the LAMB website, or you can subscribe to us in iTunes by searching for "lambcast". And while you're there, why not leave a review (maybe listen to a different episode if you're going to do that though).
