Make money by writing feature article

I write every day. It has been my lifetime habit which I cannot abandon anymore. If I don't write in a day, I will feel anxious due to the many ideas kept inside my mind. I don't care about making grammatical mistakes in my writings. As long as the readers get my point, the grammatical mistakes are not a big problem for them.

Sometimes, I send my articles to national Indonesian magazine such as Flona, and Intisari. I received Rp. 350,000 per article. It is equivalent to 35 US dollars. Not much money for western standard. But it is enough to feed a small simple family in this country for one week.

I write feature articles. The topics range from environment to the application of renewable energy. The latest one, which I sent to Flona was Floral Tourism in Tincep Village of North Sulawesi.

Before writing feature article, I usually choose a topic which I believe attractive. Then I begin writing. I don't make paragraph plan. I just write. In academic writing it is called Free Writing. I put all things that I know in my mind about the topic that is being written.

When I have finished the free writing stage, then I carry on to the next stage which is reorganizing the paragraphs according to the content or sentences. I will group sentences that are related to one another. Then, I will arrange them into a good reading.

The final check is deleting unnecessary phrases, sentences and correcting the grammatical mistakes. When all these stages have been done, I leave it for one or two days. Sometimes I leave it for one week. I will write other articles.

After one week, I will go back to the article and review it again. At this time, I put some additional phrases and grammatical corrections. When I really feel satisfied with the article, I will send it right away to a magazine.

Usually, I have to wait for up to three months before receiving a notification from the editors that I have to confirm my bank account number. That's the moment which I really wait. by Charles Roring in Manokwari Indonesia.

In the past, Typewriter was a versatile tool for writer. Great writers like Mark Twain and Leo Tosltoy or Anton chekhov made a lot of money just by writing stories. Even in modern days now, women writers like JK Rowling - the author of Harry Potter and Diana Palmer - the author of Callaghan's Bride make money from home by being novelists.

You can do that too. To be a good writer, you have to be a good reader. If you want to make money by writing novels, you need to read novels. If you want write computer books, read computer books. By reading, you'll enrich your vocabularies, and get familiar with various kinds of writing styles.

Beside reading, you also must make writing as your daily activities. Make it as your habit. Once you have known your talent and your subject of expertise then you only need to write a book to be sold. Making money by being book author is possible for everybody.

With the advance of computer and word processor, writing books is very easy. You don't have to worry about making corrections or editing. Everything can be done with little efforts i.e. by pressing computer keys.

I write every day or now people say blogging. I make English exercises for my Englishland's website. I also write for my personal blogs which are Nature Lover and Free Expressions.

These blogs and website have helped me in making money from home. I still need to write more articles to maintain visitors. But I really believe that writing is a promising career for my future. Make Money when You Travel

I used to make money when traveling. It is not difficult if you know how to do it. Simple, you just take pictures or film about places that you visit. Then, write some articles about them and send them to magazine or newspaper. Or you can make travel books if you like. You don't need to read, How to make money while travelling. What you need to do is make money know. Use your creativity and imagination.

Yesterday I met two travelers. They have been traveling to many countries in Asia and South America. These two travelers are brothers. I wonder how they save money while working to be used later during the holiday season. Their answer is simple make money while you travel around.


So, it means they make money when they go around the world? Is it possible? Yes, it's possible but how? They work as freelance journalists. I think they are a good and solid team. They write to travel magazine, they make documentaries about certain regions. They do the editing of the films when they have returned to their hotel. It is an interesting job. It is an interesting job actually. How if their articles or documentaries are rejected by the travel magazine or TV station? As professional journalists, they will choose topics that are interesting to their audiences. Such topics are the recommended diving sites in Maluku islands and West Papua, or illegal logging in the tropical rainforest of Kalimantan and West Papua, or the cheapest way to travel around Indonesian archipelago, or the conversion of Indonesian rainforest to palm oil plantation.


They can also write about certain customs or traditions which they encounter among the Balinese and Javanese.


It sounds easy but actually writing, filming, editing and presenting it to magazine or TV station is difficult. Only experience and skillful journalists who can do all those things while traveling around. Sometimes when they are in a remote region the electricity and communication signals are not available. They have to get used to that situation. They have to keep many rechargeable batteries in their travel bags. In addition they might only be able to write their article manually on notebook. Later when they have reached the nearest town they will be able to type their article and edit photos in their laptop. They can also send it to travel magazine in Europe or North America.

New idea for Making Money from Home

Study Case: my personal experience in running a bookstore from living room
I began making money from home in early 2007. It has been two years now. I opened a bookstore from my living room. I did not have a lot of money at that time. So, I decided to choose my own living room as a place to make money selling books. I asked for a loan from a bank. Its name was Bank BNI. I got 65 million rupiahs or $ 6,500 dollars. Then, the money was used for making bookshelves and ordering books from famous book publishers in Jakarta and Yogyakarta, two big cities in Indonesia.

I have been running the Xavier bookstore for two years now and my total selling has reached more than Rp. 450,000,000 or 45,000 US dollars. Maybe for European or American standard, it is not a big business. But for us here in Indonesia, it is quite a lot.

I have done many things to make money from home business. I wrote articles and send them to national magazines such as Intisari and Flona. For one article, they paid me Rp. 350,000 or 35 US dollars. I still write every day for my blog. I also draw and paint. Some of them are shown in one of my personal websites.

Now I make money from home by blogging and authoring an educational website. I use two software i.e. Microsoft Frontpage 2003 and Blog software (wordpress and blogspot). The topics for my articles range from health and lifestyle to how to make money by working at home. I still believe that opening a home business is still the wisest decision in today's world financial crisis which we are facing right now. Besides we can open new jobs for our family and friends, we have helped the government in reducing unemployment. While many big companies lay off their workers, we create new jobs at home. In addition, we reduce traffic congestion which is good for our environment.

Whatever your idea for making money from home is, you have to have passion for it. Don't run a home business that you don't really like. Whether you still want to work on 9 to 5 system or make money from bed room writing articles for newspaper, or magazine; or even becoming a novelist, you must focus on it.

A great success story for home business entrepreneur is the case of Askthebuilder.com. The owner or founder of the website is Tim Carter. Paula Neal Mooney said in her blog that he got $ 500,000 from monetizing his web with Google Adsense.
