Today marks the Australian release date of two of my most highly anticipated films of '09. The first is Let The Right One In, the Swedish vampire film that I have plugged on this blog several times before. Having seen a pirated version of the film, I can tell you that it is absolutely brilliant (click here for my full review) and I look forward to watching it again on the big screen. Please please please go and support this film.
The second film is of course Watchmen, the adaptation of the celebrated comic book (I hate the term graphic novel.) I am extremely nervous about this film despite the early critical acclaim, because I love the comic but absolutely hated director Zack Snyder's previous film, 300. The man torturously abused slow motion in that film and it seems as though he might do the same here. This time tomorrow I will have my eyes glued to the screen, so check back here around 9pm tomorrow night for my hopefully glowing review. Until then, Clift out!
Let The Right One In is now playing at the Nova in Carlton.
Watchmen is now playing in...well, in most places.
UPDATE: I just got back from seeing Watchmen and I absolutely loved it! I may not like Zack Snyder's style, but his love for the comic is very obvious in this extremely faithful adaptation. I was planning on posting a review this evening, but after seeing it I was struck by an overpowering urge to read the comic again, so sorry to all my loyal readers (ha ha. ha.) The review should be up by midday tomorrow (saturday.) In the mean time, here are two hilarious Watchmen related videos that were featured at slashfilm.com
